HOUSE GUEST

Before You List

Your closet is about to have a second life.

Here’s what to know before lending your clothes to the community.

You’re in control

You choose what you list, your rental price, availability, listed condition, and the details and measurements you provide. Once you accept a request, you commit to having the piece available on the agreed dates.

Be honest about your piece

Give Renters a clear picture of what they are requesting. Include:

  • Brand and item name
  • Tagged size and helpful measurements
  • Colour, material, and fit notes
  • Current condition and every stain, mark, alteration, or flaw
  • Clear, current photographs

If you would be disappointed to receive it without knowing, disclose it. Small imperfections are okay—surprises aren’t.

Keep your photos current

Photos must show the piece as it looks today. Include a clear full-length image, important details, the label and size, and any existing imperfections. You may also be asked for condition photos before a rental.

Get it ready for its guest

Your piece should be clean, ready to wear, free of significant undisclosed stains or damage, and complete with its accessories unless noted. Normal cleaning between rentals is part of lending on HOUSE GUEST.

Protect your piece

Before handoff, photograph the overall condition, existing marks, closures, hardware, hemlines, embellishments, labels, and identifying details. This gives both parties a clear pickup record.

Damage and normal wear

Renters may be responsible for significant damage beyond normal wear when caused by misuse or failure to follow care instructions. HOUSE GUEST reviews damage claims using evidence from both parties. Repairable damage may be assessed at reasonable repair cost; otherwise, reasonable current value may apply—not automatically original retail price.

Clothing is meant to be worn. Minor wrinkles and small signs of ordinary use are part of the rental experience.

Honour your bookings

Once you accept a request, keep the piece available. If you must cancel, tell the Renter promptly. Repeated or unjustified cancellations may result in restrictions or removal.

Pickup, drop-off & returns

HOUSE GUEST currently uses local pickup and drop-off. Agree on details through HOUSE GUEST and be available during the agreed windows. When the piece returns, inspect it promptly. If you find new damage, preserve photographs and submit a claim for HOUSE GUEST review.

Late or missing returns

A 24-hour grace period may be provided before a late fee applies. If a delay affects another booking, contact HOUSE GUEST promptly. If a piece is not returned, the Renter may be responsible for reasonable current value and reasonable recovery or replacement costs.

A renter says something is wrong

You do not have to resolve it alone. HOUSE GUEST may ask both parties for photos, listing details, messages, condition records, and other relevant evidence before determining a fair resolution under the Terms.

One last thing

By listing, you confirm that your listing is accurate, the piece is available when accepted, existing flaws are disclosed, the piece will match its description, and you will communicate with your Renter and honour accepted bookings.

List it. Lend it. Let it live again.

By listing an item, you acknowledge the Terms of Service and applicable Lender Policies.
