Privacy Policy

HOUSE GUEST respects your privacy and is committed to handling personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

1. What we collect

• Account information: name, email address, password (hashed), profile photo, city.
• Profile information you choose to share: bio, size profile, listings.
• Transactional data: rental requests, messages, reviews, payment records (processed by our payment provider — we do not store full card numbers).
• Technical data: device type, IP address, basic analytics to improve the service.

2. How we use it

• To operate the platform: matching renters and lenders, processing payments, sending notifications.
• To maintain trust and safety: verifying email addresses, investigating reports.
• To improve HOUSE GUEST through aggregated, de-identified analytics.
• To communicate with you about your account and rentals you've requested.

3. What we do NOT do

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not share your contact details with other users beyond what you choose to display on your public profile. Street addresses and postal codes are never shown publicly: listings display city and province only, and full addresses are used solely to price and produce carrier shipping labels for a paid booking.

4. Sharing & service providers

We share data only with service providers necessary to run HOUSE GUEST (payment processing, email delivery, cloud hosting) and only to the extent required. These providers are contractually bound to protect your data.

5. Your rights

You may access, correct, or request deletion of your personal information at any time from Account Settings, or by emailing privacy@renty.ca.

6. Retention

We retain personal information for as long as your account is active, plus a reasonable period afterwards to satisfy legal and accounting requirements.

7. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards including encrypted transport (HTTPS), encrypted storage of sensitive fields, and access controls. No method is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously.
